BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA / TROOP 933
Adventures in 2020
The year 2020 began with high hopes for the scouts. Then everything took a turn in the opposite direction: The COVID-19 Pandemic hit New York and the city had a shutdown. This meant that all in-person meetings and activities for the Troop were cancelled.
However, the troop managed to have virtual meetings, due to the creativity of the Assistant Scoutmaster via Jitsi. The scouts managed to organized themselves and did activities like virtual camp outs. Some of the scouts even earned Merit Badges virtually, as well as had virtual camp at Camp Keowa online. It was reported to be a success.
Troop 933 were to have their annual Merit Badge Rally in November 2020 at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. We are planning for the Merit Badge Rally to be held virtually. On October 23, 2020, the Troop had an Awards and Stepping-up Ceremony, in which many scouts received Awards and Ranks to their next level in Scouting. Some boys crossed over from the Pack to the Troop. One of the oldest scouts got promoted to the rank of Eagle, the highest level in Scouting in April 2020. In addition, the Troop went on a 5-mile hike at Shirley Chisholm State Park in Brooklyn on December 6th.
We are looking forward for 2021 to be a year of hope and new possibilities as we continue to meet virtually as well as have some in-person activities!
