Mrs. Myrtle Brewster-Bryant was born in the Republic of Panama.

She migrated to the United States as a young woman to continue her Christian life and education. In the late 1960s, Saint Gabrielwas fortunate to be her chosen church home where she proceeded to become a tremendous spiritual force in the congregation.  Her immeasurable love for children and the Lord inspired her to accomplish remarkable things at the then “little” parish in the heart of East Flatbush.  She began teaching Sunday School and later served as the Sunday School Assistant Superintendent. When an ever-increasing Sunday School population could not be completely accommodated in the Parish Hall, she offered the basement of her home located directly across the street from the church to hold classes.  Mrs. Bryant loved music and played the piano as well as the organ.  She organized Saint Gabriel’s first Youth Choir. Mrs. Bryant’s devotion to spirituality allowed her to give so much of herself unconditionally.

In her memory, the Young Adults of Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church created ‘The Myrtle Bryant Scholarship Fund’ to assist High School graduates with the cost of tuition, books, and supplies.  She will be remembered fondly always.
